Goal Setting

Setting goals is an important part of the exercise rehabilitation journey

 

Think of it like drawing a map

​

A guide from where you are now, to where you want to be in the future

​

In 2022, I was invited as an expert panelist, to present at the

ASSBI - Australasian Society for the Study of Brain Impairment

​

This opportunity arose out of my post-graduate studies, and my research project, 

A study of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), in the population of South West Western Australia

 

Presenting at this panel was an exciting opportunity to refresh my goal-setting skillset

I joined an interdisciplinary team of health professionals to participate in a collaborative 'Case Study' exercise

Our task was to work together to establish neurological rehabilitation goals for a lady who had experienced a brain injury

 

Putting my skills to the test in a live, collaborative setting was a great refresher

and it also got me excited to offer this process to my clients

Clients of KT KINETIC

will be supported through the goal-setting process by a framework referred to as The 'GAS Light' Method

 

It was designed for use in neurological settings, but can be applied to all

The 'GAS' refers to Goal Attainment Scaling

​

​

​

​

​

​

​

​

​

​

​

​

 

This is a progressive approach to goal setting because it allows for flexibility 

We will weight your goals based on their importance to you

And we can weight them based on their difficulty as well

 

 

When it comes time to review your goals

Instead of a 'pass' or 'fail' result, a 5- point scale will be used

If you achieve 'as expected' you'll score 0

This gives room for 2 levels above and below

​

Once completed

This data will be put through a very complicated algorithm

Designed by health researchers with far more intellect than I

​

Luckily, there is software that will do these calculations for us!

​

At the end of the review,

You will get an indication of how you are tracking against your goals

 

This goal-setting approach represents the gold standard in evidence-based practice

And will provide you with objective data to help track your progress

​
